In the last column of the quarter before Spring Break, I feel compelled to offer some advice for those of you looking for some vacation action. I have compiled a list of important things to know, a dos and don'ts if you will, from the vaults of my own and others' experiences.
10. When flying to an exotic destination, don't try to join the Mile High club with a stranger to pass the time. Get to know the person a bit before you try to cram yourself into bathrooms smaller than your luggage. And of course, be safe. Lock the door, put on the "occupied" sign and wrap it up.
9. There is no shame in enjoying a few cocktails before and during the flight. There is shame, however, in being shitfaced and drooling on the person next to you and vomiting on their Bermuda shorts.
Putting your photo on most anything
More Americans than ever are wearing their photographs. Or eating them. Or showcasing them on calendars, greeting cards and china plates. In the versatile digital age, picture-bearing merchandise is a booming segment of the photo-printing market - and a lucrative one, too. Now the mostly online arena appears poised to gravitate big-time to the corner pharmacy. Scores of online players, led by Shutterfly Inc., Eastman Kodak Co.'s KodakGallery.com and Hewlett-Packard Co.'s Snapfish.com, tout a variety of photo novelties, from laser-etched crystal ornaments to personalized postcards, key rings, T-shirts, purses, mugs, mouse pads, birthday cakes and lollipops. Kodak and Japan's Fujifilm Holdings Corp., which divided up the traditional film market, are unveiling new technologies and partnerships designed to counter eroding profits from film processing by reeling in custom-photo customers via retail channels.
Job of the Day: Spa Receptionist
The Concord Athletic Club - a Wellbridge property - is currently seeking exceptional industry professionals to join the CAC team as a Spa Receptionist. Spa Desk Associates perform front desk duties to ensure efficient operation and delivery of exceptional customer service at Club Spa. The Spa Reception area is the first point of contact for all incoming calls and guests to the Club Spa and is key in impressing the company standards for professionalism and quality service. The Spa Desk also operates as the scheduling and information hub for all Spa-related bookings and activities. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous customer service experience preferred. Basic computer skills including: Word/Excel and Internet experience. Ability to deliver high quality customer service.
Simplicity and safety to the fore
"Simplicity and safety" are the two main concepts in the design and decoration of Baan Rim Klong at Muang Ake, Rangsit, owned by iTV host Sroyfa O-sukontip and her husband Somchai Triratananukul. The dcor follows the same concept, with safety both for and against a vigorous two-year-old daughter, Nam Fa. "My husband, Somchai, who is now senior manager of Jasmine Submarine Telecommunication, took care of the construction of our family home, with ideas for energy saving and safety for children. I decorated the interior, for which the main features were white colour and natural wood," she says. Somchai says that before building the house, he decided on an energy-saving design, in terms of both construction and later electricity savings. As a construction material, he selected Q-con lightweight, autoclaved concrete products.
